MVP Summit - Day 3 and 4
Day 3 was a good day, although the sessions weren't that exciting. It's not that the content wasn't good; it was about stuff that I've known about for a while (IronRuby, F#, etc.). The evening festivities were fun - I actually got up on stage and "sang" "Living After Midnight". D'arcy has a vid of this and he told me he's definitely posting it. Gotta love humiliating material.
Day 4 was two talks by Ray Ozzie and Steve Ballmer. I've never seen either speak, and I was actually impressed with Steve (Ray was OK). I was more entertained than I thought I would be (and I'm sure there's video of his "coming and coming and coming and..." line somewhere out there...). And that's all she wrote for me. I went to lunch with a bunch of MVPs, and now I'm in the hotel room, relaxing. I'm flying back home tomorrow.
Overall, I liked the event, but frankly I really didn't learn anything new, nor did anything surprise and/or shock the hell out of me. That's not to say I won't come back; I'm definitely going to try and come back to future events (assuming I stay a MVP, of course!). But I've learned that it's really about networking and hanging out with other geeks, which seems like an obvious thing to say in retrospect. I've been reading so many blogs by other folks and to actually put a name to a face has been...well...interesting. I've also discovered that I need to get a new phone so I can twitter whenever I want (and make sure to lock the phone when I leave it on the table...right, Jon?)
